Confident Faith

My absolute favorite topic to teach, blog, or speak about is confidence. I love this topic because our confidence or lack thereof affects every aspect of our lives. Where there is a lack of confidence, there is a disconnect between who you should be and who you are. BUT the key to confidence is understanding the root of it.

Since this is the last week in the Faith Series, I want to tie faith and confidence together. I think we can all agree that there are times that God will ask you to do something that seems a little crazy. You know, when you begin to consider that idea to be the aftermath of last night’s pizza instead of being instruction from God.

I’m quite certain that’s how the people in 2 Kings 3 felt. They were exhausted, thirsty, and lost when they went searching for the prophet, Elisha. When God told them to dig ditches (2 Kings 3:14) in preparation for Him to supply their need for water, I’m sure that was the last thing they wanted to do. To top it off, God set their expectations that they would see no evidence of rain, but the water would still be supplied.

They had to have full confidence in who God was to set aside their fleshly desires to sacrifice in preparation for the blessing that was promised. The scriptures go on to show that the level of blessing was determined by the amount of ditches dug. In other words, the blessing (water) was only hindered by the amount space provided (ditches).

How can you apply this practically?

  • If you are supposed to start a business - open a Paypal account. How can people work with you without an easy way to pay you?
  • If you are supposed to go to school - prep for your entrance exams. How can you want to be a Ph.D. without a master’s degree?
  • If you are supposed to start a blog - get a domain name. How can people read the blog in your iPhone notepad?

It’s time to get digging. Your future depends on your confident faith in the one who created it all.
